Aftersun Counselling

My Background
From my own experiences as a client in therapy, I am familiar with the awkwardness of sitting down with a stranger in such an intimate setting. Growing up as a first-generation Canadian, I struggled to reconcile my identity across two vastly different cultures. Without a secure sense of belonging in either community, I experienced low self-esteem and other mental health concerns. While this journey of identity is ever evolving, therapy was integral in helping me to relieve the disconnect. My personal experiences have significantly influenced my path in the mental health field.
Prior to becoming a clinical counsellor, I spent years on beautiful Vancouver Island, gaining experience in a variety of support roles. Some of these include being a Community Support Worker in group homes for folks with developmental disabilities, an Emergency Support Worker in women’s shelters, and a volunteer at a province wide crisis line. Not only did these roles require intensive training that informs my work today, but they offered me profound insight and connection to people from all walks of life. Despite the diversity in these experiences I always came back to one truth: that the desire to be seen and loved is all any of us really want. I then moved to Toronto to complete my master’s degree, and trained in the Trauma Therapy Center at Women’s College Hospital before returning to the West Coast.
I acknowledge the financial barriers to therapy and offer sliding scale sessions as needed:
